I know I've been MIA, Autism

In January Doodle turned 12. Last week the beginning of February I had a meeting with our speech therapist at the school. She and I both agreed that Doodle is out of the picture schedule phase. So it's time to figure something new out. She benefits much better with social stories. And since she is progressing so well it's time she took responsibility for her time. Yep, we are going back to learning time.

Doodle learned to tell time when she was in the second grade. She did really well with it. But since she is no longer at the school or the school system where she learned so much and was placed in a school where the teacher didn't even want to take notes on the students as per our States' requirements. She suffered a heart breaking regression.

As a parent who wants the best for my child I took the steps to get Doodle into an all handicapped school. A school that taught the students how to be able to live on their own and take responsibility for their actions. They even teach the students how to cook for themselves. It's an awesome school. No longer is Doodle stuck in a room all day and no longer allowed to participate like a regular ed students. She is now able to attend computer lab with the rest of her peers. She thrives at this school and I'm very happy with the choices that I have made for her for her best interest.

And because it is Mardi Gras season down here we now have more school breaks. Most kids get two weeks for spring break, we only get one. Only because we have an extra break and it's the Mardi Gras break. We live in a party city. Any ways my mother had been watching Doodle for me so I can work. Now my mother has the Mardi Gras bug and I have to pay for a sitter. In all honesty I wouldn't change this one for the world. I have a trusted friend that Doodle just adores watching her. And every time she watches her Doodle is progressing more and more.

This past weekend I had an event. She, Doodle and my friends boyfriend who I call my son went to the pet store. They hit every pet store in the city. They brought Doodle to me at work when the event was over. On the way home there was a diesel truck beside my vehicle. One of Doodle's hearing sensory triggers is diesel engines. That can make her flip out faster then I can close the automatic window. Doodle didn't budge. Didn't scream out, didn't cover her ears. She sat there with a smile on her face. She acknowledged the truck but it didn't bother her. So right now for me paying for a babysitter is well worth it.

My classes at work are starting to pick up again and I am so happy about that. Since the change last year during the summer my classes dropped off to nothing and the only thing I've been successful at was our work events. They've now dropped our prices so now I can better compete with our competitors aka Hobby Lobby and other art stores in our area. So I do have that going for me. And at this point I need it cause the babysitter makes more then I do being out of the house. It's expensive having a babysitter for a special needs child who is now 12. And the best part is I come home from work at night and Doodle is out like a light. It's so nice having 9 pm to myself and not have to be stressed out by a child who refuses to go to sleep.

You guys have a great day. And I'll see you on the flip side.
